About Sian

My name is Sian Jones and I am a fully qualified Counsellor and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I am dedicated to providing a warm, supportive, and non-judgemental space where we can explore the challenges holding you back. My approach is straightforward and empathetic, ensuring you feel at ease while we work together to reduce emotional distress and make lasting positive changes.

I specialise in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), a well-established method under the CBT umbrella. REBT focuses on how our emotions and behaviours are influenced by the beliefs we hold about ourselves and the world. Through this structured approach, I help you identify and challenge self-defeating beliefs, replacing them with more constructive and realistic alternatives.

I believe the relationship between therapist and client is the most important factor in successful therapy. Many of my clients appreciate that I take an active role in the process; I don’t just sit and nod. Instead, I offer reflections, guidance, and genuine conversation to help you see the 'wood from the trees' and bring clarity to your thinking.

Ultimately, my goal is to empower you. While I provide the tools and framework to make sense of your situation, I aim to help you feel confident in making the choices that are right for your own life and emotional wellbeing.

Background and experience

My journey into the therapeutic profession was a deliberate career change driven by a long-standing interest in human psychology. Over a ten-year period, alongside full-time work, I completed my BSc (Hons) in Psychology and progressed through extensive training to earn my Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and further qualifications in Psychotherapy.

Before specialising in therapy, I spent many years in the corporate world in various management roles. This background provided me with a broad perspective on life outside the therapy room and helped me develop essential skills in communication, structure, and discipline. These professional traits now inform my therapeutic practice, allowing me to offer a focused and organised approach to mental health support.

A really positive experience!!!! Being able to do the sessions from home made it much easier for us with work and the children. Sian was warm and fair to both. It was amazing how quickly she drilled down to find out both our perspectives, she also said that couple therapy it was like holding a mirror up to us both to see how our individual behaviour might not be helping the relationship, but she never once blamed either of us. Highly insightful!

I went for Counselling because my temper was starting to affect my relationship. I didn't really know what to expect but Sian was great. I learnt to notice when I was getting wound up before it got too far and deal with things differently. My partner has noticed a difference too which probably says more than I can. I also didn’t feel embarrassed, which is what I was worried about

I was a bit cynic about therapy but decided to give it a go as I was struggling with anger and getting irritated over quite small things. Sian was really down to earth and very easy to talk to and didn't make me feel like I was being judged. We looked at what was actually behind some of my reactions and how I could catch myself earlier rather than going from nought to 100. I now know that my reactions were usually irrational. I would recommend Sian to anyone who gets angry easily

We came to counselling after trust had been broken in our relationship and at the time I wasn't sure whether we would stay together. The first few sessions weren't easy and there were definitely things that were difficult to hear, but Sian never took sides and somehow managed to keep us talking even when one of us wanted to shut down. Over time we started to understand what had happened between us rather than just going over the same arguments. We also learnt how differently we both deal with conflict, which explained quite a lot! We still have things to work on but we feel like a couple again rather than two people constantly against each other. I'm very grateful to Sian for all her help and would recommend couple counselling to anyone.

Had CBT for anxiety and found it really helpful. Sian made me feel comfortable from the first session and never felt judged. I do sometimes have anxious days but I cope with them so much better now. Thank you!

I wish I'd done CBT sooner. I had got into a horrible cycle of worrying about everything and then worrying about the fact I was worrying! My sessions with Sian really helped me understand what was going on and gave me things I could actually do when my anxiety started. I'm not suddenly someone who never worries, but it doesn't take over in the way it used to.
