These Terms & Conditions apply to all therapy sessions booked through onlinecbtcounselling.com.
About the Service
Online CBT Counselling offers individual online therapy only.
Sessions cost £68 and last 60 minutes.
Sessions are delivered on a one-to-one basis by video.
Couples counselling and face-to-face therapy are not offered through this website.
Video sessions are encrypted in transit and accessed through a browser link provided with your booking confirmation.
No app download is required.
Sessions are not recorded by Online CBT Counselling or the booking platform.
Clients must not record a session without obtaining their therapist’s prior written agreement.
Online CBT Counselling does not operate a central waiting list. Clients choose from the live availability offered by participating therapists. Availability with a particular therapist cannot be guaranteed.
This is not a crisis, emergency, diagnostic, prescribing or NHS service.
Contracting Party
By booking a session through this website, you enter into a direct therapeutic contract with the self-employed therapist who will deliver your session.
The Global Therapy Group SG PTE Ltd provides the booking platform and associated administrative support. It does not provide therapy services and is not a party to the therapeutic contract.
Each therapist works independently and is responsible for:
their therapeutic work and professional decisions
their professional conduct
maintaining appropriate qualifications and insurance
complying with the standards and ethical framework of any professional body to which they belong
determining whether their experience and competence are appropriate for a client’s needs
Therapist Qualifications and Professional Status
Professional-body membership, registration and accreditation vary between therapists. Each therapist’s relevant qualifications, memberships, registrations and accreditations are displayed on their individual profile.
Before a therapist can accept bookings through the platform, checks are undertaken in relation to their qualifications, insurance and relevant professional memberships.
Therapists may belong to recognised UK professional bodies such as BACP, UKCP, HCPC or another relevant organisation. Clients should review the therapist’s profile before booking if a particular membership, registration or accreditation is important to them.
Therapy Approaches
The approaches offered depend on each therapist’s qualifications, training, competence and experience.
The availability of specialist approaches, including ERP for OCD, trauma-focused CBT, CBT-I and CBT adapted for autistic clients, is not guaranteed across all therapists.
Clients should review the therapist’s profile and, where necessary, confirm suitability with the therapist before booking.
Session Fees
Individual online therapy costs £68 per 60-minute session.
Session fees are reviewed annually. Any changes will normally take effect from 1 January and will not affect sessions that have already been booked and paid for.
First Bookings and Payment
All first appointments must be paid for in full at the time of booking using a valid credit or debit card.
A booking is not confirmed until payment has been successfully completed and a booking confirmation has been issued.
Rebookings and Payment
If you arrange a follow-up session with your therapist, the session must still be booked through the platform using either:
the secure rebooking link provided by your therapist, or
the returning-client booking option on the website.
Full payment must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled session, unless the session is booked within the following 24 hours and payment is taken immediately.
Cancellations, Rescheduling and Refunds
Sessions may be cancelled or rescheduled without charge when more than 24 hours’ notice is provided.
Sessions cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged in full and are not eligible for a refund.
Same-day appointments are booked within the 24-hour cancellation window. They are therefore non-refundable once confirmed, except where the therapist or platform cancels the appointment or where a refund is otherwise required by law.
If you do not attend your session, the session will be treated as missed and charged in full.
If you arrive more than 15 minutes late without prior agreement, your therapist may treat the session as missed. The session may not be extended beyond its scheduled finishing time and no refund will be provided.
Technical Problems
Clients are responsible for having a suitable device, a stable internet connection and a private location from which to attend their session.
If a technical problem prevents the session from taking place, the therapist and client should first attempt to reconnect.
Where the problem is caused by the therapist or the booking platform and the session cannot reasonably continue, the session will normally be rearranged or refunded.
Where the problem is caused by the client’s device, internet connection or environment, the therapist may treat the session as having taken place or offer an alternative arrangement at their discretion.
Number of Sessions and Attendance
Weekly sessions are often recommended, particularly during the early stages of therapy. However, the appropriate frequency and number of sessions will depend on the client’s needs, circumstances and progress.
Your therapist will discuss this with you and review the arrangement where appropriate. Booking an initial session does not require you to commit to a particular number of future sessions.
Children and Young People
A session for a client under the age of 16 must be booked by a parent or legal guardian who holds parental responsibility and is able to provide consent.
Clients aged 16 or 17 may book for themselves, subject to the therapist being satisfied that the session is appropriate and that applicable consent, safeguarding and professional requirements have been met.
The therapist may require:
confirmation of parental responsibility or consent
an emergency contact
information about the young person’s location during online sessions
involvement from a parent, guardian, GP or another professional where clinically or legally appropriate
Additional information about confidentiality, consent, emergency contacts and safeguarding is provided on our Children and Young People page.
Not every therapist works with children or young people. Eligibility must be checked on the therapist’s profile before booking.
Confidentiality
Therapy sessions are confidential and are conducted in accordance with the ethical framework and professional obligations applicable to the therapist.
Confidentiality is not absolute. A therapist may disclose information where they reasonably believe that:
the client or another person is at serious risk of harm
there is a safeguarding concern involving a child or vulnerable person
disclosure is required by law, a court order or another legal obligation
disclosure is otherwise permitted or required under the therapist’s professional and ethical obligations
Where appropriate and safe to do so, the therapist will normally discuss the need for disclosure with the client before taking action.
Supervision
Therapists using the platform are expected to undertake professional supervision in accordance with the requirements of their profession and any relevant professional body.
A therapist may discuss aspects of a client’s therapy with their supervisor to support safe and ethical practice. Identifying information should not be disclosed unless it is necessary and professionally justified.
Referrals and Suitability
Therapists may decide that a client’s needs fall outside their competence, experience or the scope of online therapy.
In these circumstances, the therapist may decline or discontinue therapy and may recommend another therapist, the client’s GP, an NHS service, a specialist provider or another appropriate source of support.
The availability of a suitable referral cannot be guaranteed.
Crisis and Emergency Support
Online CBT Counselling is not an emergency or crisis service and is not monitored continuously.
Clients who believe that they or another person are in immediate danger should call 999 or attend the nearest Accident and Emergency department.
For urgent medical advice in the UK, clients can contact NHS 111. Clients outside the UK should contact the emergency or crisis services available in their current location.
Clients should not rely on their therapist, email, the website or the booking platform to obtain urgent assistance.
Nature of Therapy and Outcomes
Therapy is a collaborative process and outcomes vary between individuals.
Therapists will work in accordance with the professional and ethical standards applicable to them, but no particular result or outcome can be guaranteed.
Progress may depend on several factors, including the client’s participation, attendance, circumstances and engagement during and between sessions.
International Clients
Therapists available through this website are UK-based and practise in accordance with the UK professional and ethical requirements applicable to them.
If you access therapy while located outside the UK, by booking you confirm that:
you understand that your therapist is qualified and insured to practise from the UK
therapy will be provided according to the therapist’s applicable UK professional and ethical standards
you are responsible for checking whether receiving online therapy from a UK-based therapist is permitted in the country or territory where you are located
you will tell your therapist your current location and provide suitable local emergency contact information where requested
A therapist may be unable to work with clients in certain countries or territories because of legal, regulatory, insurance or professional restrictions.
Complaints
Concerns relating to the therapy provided should normally be raised directly with the therapist in the first instance.
Where the therapist belongs to a professional body, a complaint may also be made through that body’s complaints procedure where applicable.
The Global Therapy Group SG PTE Ltd does not investigate, adjudicate or determine clinical complaints.
Complaints relating specifically to the operation of the website, booking process, payment administration or handling of personal data may be submitted using the contact details below.
Limitation of Liability
The therapist is responsible for the therapy services they provide, including their clinical decisions, professional conduct and compliance with their professional obligations.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Global Therapy Group SG PTE Ltd accepts no liability for clinical decisions, therapeutic outcomes or acts or omissions of independently practising therapists.
The Global Therapy Group SG PTE Ltd will not be liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the booking platform where such losses were not reasonably foreseeable.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded.
Data Protection and Privacy
Personal data is handled in accordance with applicable data-protection law, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 where applicable.
Please refer to our Privacy Policy for further information about how personal information is collected, used, stored and shared.
Therapists are independently responsible for the clinical records and personal information they process in connection with providing therapy.
Changes to These Terms
These Terms may be updated periodically. The version that applies to a booking will normally be the version published on the website when the booking is made.
Any material change affecting an existing booking will be communicated where required.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply.
Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction over disputes, subject to any mandatory consumer rights that entitle a client to bring proceedings in another jurisdiction.
