About Shauna

Hello, my name is Shauna and I'm a fully qualified accredited Integrative and EMDR Therapist. I offer a warm, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you will be supported and heard. Starting therapy can feel like a big step, but I am here to ensure you do not have to do it alone. My aim is to help you work towards positive change at your own pace, providing professional guidance every step of the way.

As an integrative therapist, I tailor my approach to suit your individual needs. I frequently incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is particularly effective if you feel stuck in your current circumstances. By using CBT, we can break down your problems into manageable parts, recognise unhelpful patterns of behaviour, and build new ways of thinking and coping, I am also an EMDR therapist - EMDR is a trauma focused therapy that helps the brain process distressing or overwhelming experiences that may be contributing to anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or emotional distress. It can be delivered safely and effectively online, and many clients find it helpful for working through both recent and past experiences that continue to affect their wellbeing.

In our initial sessions, we will gently explore what is troubling you and identify what you would like to change. If you are not yet sure what your specific goals are, that is absolutely okay; many clients feel this way. Together, we will work to find clarity and direction in a way that feels natural and comfortable for you.

Background and experience

My professional journey began in social care and midwifery, which provided me with a strong foundation in building trusting therapeutic relationships and honing my communication skills. I spent many years working in residential homes and independent living services, supporting adults with physical and learning disabilities, as well as working within hospital settings.

This diverse background has given me extensive experience in supporting clients through a wide range of challenges. I specialise in helping individuals manage anxiety, depression, bereavement, and trauma. I also have significant experience working with substance misuse, gender dysphoria, body dysmorphia, neurodevelopmental conditions, and eating disorders. Regardless of what you are going through, I will meet you with empathy and work alongside you at your pace.

I was apprehensive to start therapy again but from the very offset during my initial call with Shona I felt extremely comfortable. She was always so friendly and I found her very easy to talk to. She helped me through some very hard times and I’d recommend her to anyone who feels like they could do with additional support.

    Massively beneficial

Shauna made me feel at ease and I was able to speak to her openly. She was the support I needed through a difficult time. She listened and offered helpful advice and ways of coping/dealing with problems.

    Professionally reassuring, welcoming safe environment

The thought of asking for help can be so daunting especially for me as a man when we have been taught not to be weak. Shauna made me feel so comfortable from the first meeting that I felt I could talk. I looked forward to our sessions even more so as I got better. I will admit I was mess and needed help with 30+ years of unresolved issues and family trauma that were never addressed. I was always in fight or flight mode and on edge, self medicated all of my adult life. Shauna worked with me every week for 12 months and then slowly we had less sessions until I went on my own, I was a little worried. Shauna is kind, warm and very knowledgeable she remembers every detail. We unboxed so many things I did not realise they were there hidden away bothering me. I learnt how to communicate my feelings, to be heard and learnt why some us feel the way we do due to childhood trauma. Gone are the sleepless nights with my head churning over and over. I finally have inner peace, thanks to Shauna. If I ever needed counselling again, it would always be with Shauna 100%
