About Maureen

Hello, my name is Maureen. I understand that reaching out for support can feel like a big step, and I genuinely admire the courage it takes to ask for help. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly when anxiety, depression, difficult life experiences, or emotional struggles begin to affect your wellbeing.

My aim is to provide a warm, welcoming, and confidential space where you can feel comfortable talking openly about whatever is troubling you. I believe that feeling heard, understood, and accepted is an important part of the therapeutic process.

I work using Person-Centred, CBT, Psychodynamic, and Attachment-Based approaches, tailoring therapy to your individual needs. Together, we can explore the experiences, beliefs, thoughts, and patterns that may be affecting how you feel today. once we establish cause of trauma I believe that CBT can help identify unhelpful thinking and behaviour patterns, while my broader therapeutic approach allows us to explore the deeper experiences that may be contributing to your difficulties. I am particularly interested in helping clients understand how early life experiences can influence self-esteem, relationships, communication, and emotional wellbeing. To help with this I often do what is called Inner Child Work, which is exactly what it sounds like. We very gently go revisit events and situations in your childhood that maybe have become buried, but are contributing to your difficulties. We will only do what you want to do, please be assured of that, if you are not happy in the work we will look at other ways of connecting with the little child you once were.

I am passionate about helping people discover their own strengths, develop greater self-awareness, and find healthier ways of moving forward. Therapy can help you understand yourself more deeply, build confidence, improve communication, and create lasting positive change.

I look forward to meeting you.

Background and experience

I qualified as a therapist in 2014 and have extensive experience supporting people with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent more than 30 years working within the voluntary sector, including roles with Citizens Advice and Victim Support. These positions gave me valuable insight into the challenges people can face during difficult periods of their lives.

I worked for eight years at New Romney Counselling Service, supporting clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and suicidal thoughts. I also volunteered with a local hospice, working with patients and bereaved families. While I no longer specialise in bereavement counselling, this experience greatly shaped my understanding of loss, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.

Throughout my career, I have worked with clients carrying many forms of trauma, as well as those struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, and other emotional challenges. My aim is always to provide a safe, supportive environment where clients can explore their difficulties and work towards positive change.
